Instructions:

1. Trump administration imposed sweeping reciprocal tariffs on trading partners.

President Trump signed a flat 10% tariff on all nations and then additional

tariffs on those states that US accuses of charging higher levies on US goods.

China was hit with 50%, Lesotho with 50%, Cambodia with 49%, Vietnam with

46% and Mercantilism with 20%. Escalation of tarriffs and a continuation of

Unilateral measures could deepen the erosion of trust in the global trade

system, further pushing China to diversify its partners and reduce on the US

market. This will also affect US consumers as they are already facing higher car

prices following Trump's 25% levies on all autos coming into the US.

Deconstruct the given statement with respect to PE. (15)

2. Most iPhones are still made in China, which was hit with a 125% tariff. Apple sells

more than 220 million iPhones per year. The cheapest iPhone 16 model was launched

in the US with price of $799, but could cost as much as $1142, if Apple is able to

pass that on to customers. Trump administration imposed tariffs on a wide range of

Chinese imports in his first term to pressure US companies to bring manufacturing either

back to the USA or to nearby states such as Mexico, but Apple secured exemptions

or waivers. According to CFRA research, Apple will have a tough time passing on

more than 5% to 10% of the cost to customers. Even with some production of iPhones

moving to Vietnam and India, these states were also not spared from tariffs either, with

Vietnam getting a 46% levy and India's at 26%.

Comment on the above statement with respect to PE Theory. (15)
